The Stand Up!

Opening a chapter of SafeBae at my high school in California opened my eyes to the severity of sexual harassment as an issue in today's society. With this new understanding, it allowed me to observe certain interactions between individuals in public that would be deemed as unsafe. In one situation, upon my arrival to the movie theaters with my friends I noticed a girl, about 17 years old, arguing with a man of about the same age. While waiting in line for the snack stand I was able to continue observing this interaction being careful to spot any moment of escalation. Soon after their argument was initiated, the girl attempted to leave but was instead grabbed and pulled back by this man. Noticing this sign of physical violence promoted me to intervene, immediately walking over and asking if everything was okay. My approach made the male figure depart which allowed me to make sure the girl was safe and unharmed. It is never acceptable for a man to lay his hands on another person with malicious intent, and I would not hesitate to intervene again if this situation occurred on a later date.
